Season Five of The Chosen is its Most Significant Season Yet – A Street Church Review

When we reviewed Episodes 1 and 2 of The Chosen Season Five, one thing was clear: A shift was happening. The crowd scenes felt intense, as Jesus walked, fully aware, toward the cross.

Unquestionably, The Chosen has entered its most significant phase yet with this season. We identified the true accomplishments of this season.

One of these achievements of this season lies in its portrayal of Jesus. Jonathan Roumie’s performance is great as usual. He speaks with the authority of someone who knows His words are about to cost Him everything. There’s a growing tiredness behind his eyes, and it’s not just from the Pharisees.

This version of Jesus disrupts the portrayals many of us grew up with. He weeps, confronts, and warns about what is to come.  And in Season Five, He chooses not just to teach the kingdom, but to live it, knowing that doing so will seal His fate.

From a Street Church perspective, it’s impossible not to notice how The Chosen continues to build bridges between the bible and our world.

The season mirrors our cultural moment where passionate people want immediate justice, Twitter users protect tradition over truth, crowds follow as long as the miracles keep coming. And christians, like many of us today, want a kingdom without a crucifixion.

Season Five of The Chosen doesn’t just continue the story. It sets the tone for everything that’s coming. But perhaps the most powerful takeaway is that the end is necessary. And in watching Jesus walk toward it, we’re invited to consider our own responses to His invitation.

This reminds us that the most important thing about the gospel is the sacrifice of Jesus.

The Chosen Season 5 is still streaming on Prime Video.
