To a newcomer standing in the middle of the dance floor at UNASHAMED, the sight would be startling, perhaps even confusing.
This doesn’t look like any church service you’ve attended. The stage isn’t covered in burgundy cloth or flanked by a traditional choir in matching robes. There are no altar, no hymnals, no ushers in uniform directing traffic. Instead, there’s a DJ booth, several speakers that hit with bass frequencies you’d expect at a nightclub, and a crowd of young unashamed people, some in sneakers and streetwear, others in their sunday evening best, dancing with an intensity that would match a street carnival.
And just in front of this crowd, stands DJ Horphuray, playing Amapiano-infused beats that blend seamlessly with scripture-soaked lyrics.

This was the scene on November 16 at the second edition of DJ Horphuray Live in Concert. And that was the kind of revolution DJ Horphuray, known to many as Big Ray, is building in the new generation.
Breaking the Sacred Sound Barrier
As far as Afro-gospel has come, we cannot speak about the growth of the genre without acknowledging the DJs who have carried its sound across cities, communities, and cultures. At the forefront of that movement is DJ Horphuray, a Christian DJ with over a decade of experience and an undeniable imprint on the industry. Born Aimuemojie Ofure, the Guinness World Record holder for the longest non-stop gospel DJ set—a staggering 72 hours—has become the bridge between two worlds that were never meant to be separate. As the official DJ at Cool FM Nigeria’s 96.9 FM and host of the Afro-Gospel show AStepFWD, he has consistently proven that you can “party and lock down in grand style and still bless lives,” as he once put it. His tagline simply states: there is no party like a Holy Ghost party.
His impact cannot be overstated. From playing the biggest shows to spinning at celebrity weddings, and collaborating with some of the genre’s most influential figures, Limoblaze, Gaise Baba, Rehmahz, Ada Ehi, Obareengy, Protek, Saelem, and many more, DJ Horphuray has consistently pushed the sound forward.
The Concert That Captured a Movement

The second edition of DJ Horphuray Live in Concert was a carefully designed experience that challenged every preconception about what a gospel concert should look and feel like. The artist lineup contained some of Afro-Gospel’s finest: from the soulful storytelling of Paul Tomisin to the prophetic fervor of Gaise Baba, each artist brought their unique expression of faith to a young crowd hungry for authenticity.
But the true genius of the evening lay in DJ Horphuray’s sequencing, his ability to read the room and shift seamlessly between high-energy praise and intimate worship, between hip-hop-inflected declarations and Amapiano grooves that made even the most reserved attendees move.
The Afro-house set, in particular, became the night’s defining moment. As rhythms filled the venue, young people who might have felt out of place by traditional church services found themselves in genuine praise and worship, not despite the music, but because of it.
DJ Horphuray’s intentional song selection created an experience where worship and street culture collided in the most beautiful way possible.
The Flow Continues
As DJ Horphuray Live in Concert wraps up another successful edition, it’s clear that this is a blueprint for the future of Nigerian afrogospel music. The success of the November 16 event signals that there is an appetite and a hunger for worship and party experiences that young Christians can feel and not be ashamed of.
Across Lagos and beyond, the Christian music scene is expanding with fresh energy. Event announcements from Kelar Thrillz, Anendlessocean, Gaise Baba, Keptah, and others promise an exciting season ahead. Now you don’t have to choose between being culturally relevant and spiritually grounded.
The movement is no longer coming. It’s here. And DJ Horphuray is already spinning a new narrative for what it means to be young, Nigerian, and on fire for God.
As the year winds down and the calendar fills with upcoming gospel events, one question is on our mind:
Which event will you be attending?
